Trending Home Renovation Styles Of This Summer

Home Design Interior

We all know what the big summer trends are in home renovations: building a new deck, upgrading your lawn, installing a built-in grill around the pool. But what changes is how people are making these renovations. Are there new colors, styles, or materials that are being used? How can you personalize these areas to truly make them your own? In fact, there are several new styles trending this year, and you are sure to find something you’ll love among them. Let’s take a closer look.

Recreate your whole exterior look

If you’re tired of your old windows and want to give your house a fresh look from the outside, perhaps you should look into upgrading them. A new set of windows will not only make your home look prettier, it may well make it more energy-efficient as well. There are attractive triple-pane windows that have Energy Star ratings, which will be sure to keep your house warm in the winter and cool in the summer. You likely have many windows in the house that could use replacing, so doing a full-scale overhaul could do you a lot of good in the long run. Keeping your house insulated and lowering your energy bills could end up saving you a lot over time. In fact, you might even want an entire front porch enclosure to hold heat in better.

Switch to warm colors

One of the trends that is making waves this summer is the switch to “warmer” colors. A lot of homes come readily available with walls painted in stale hospital white. Psychological studies show that making the switch to a greater use of beige, tan, and related colors gives homes a cozier feel and creates a soothing effect.

Some people are taking the opportunity to complement warm colors with jazzier-colored furniture and internal decor. Beige walls and bright red couches and chairs are not uncommon this summer.

Mixed metals

Another big trend this summer is the rise of metals in home decor. This can include gold, brass, and copper-toned pieces and anything from pots and pans to larger areas like sinks or even living room tables. These tones can provide a beautiful complement to the warm tones being used on walls.

Sustainable everything

Not only should your windows be energy efficient; you can actually go greener on most of the things in your house these days. Every room in the house can benefit: sinks and toilets can be replaced with ones that use less water. Cooking areas can be switched over from ones that use ungodly amounts of energy to those that use natural gas. And of course the lighting in your house can be upgraded to involve more LED lighting and less traditional bulbs.

And this can make a difference on the wallet, too! The Canadian government actively encourages energy-efficient upgrades and wants to reward them. You can actually save back 10% of the cost of upgrading when you make the switch to greener living. And you can be eligible for a tax credit of up to $10,000. So this is definitely something to consider.

This is not to mention that many energy-efficient models come in sleek, planet-friendly designs that will also make an excellent complement to your new earth-toned walls.

Biophilia

Not unrelated to the idea of being more sustainable is the notion of being more in touch with nature. The concept of “biophilia” is gaining a lot of steam this summer. So to go along with your energy-efficient appliance upgrades, you might consider a nice bamboo theme in the kitchen. Cork materials are another growing trend that could look great in certain rooms in the house. And perhaps some paint touches with different shades of green could be a great match for the warm tones you’re using in other rooms of the house.

People are also taking the time to add more plants to their interiors to give rooms a greater sense of life. This, along with pictures of landscapes can give the rooms of your house a whole new feeling, both in the summer months and indeed throughout the year.

Going vintage

Retro is another big name this summer. Just how retro, you might wonder? Well, the final result is up to you, of course. Some people are making major changes to whole rooms, installing things like upholstered furniture and flock wallpaper.

Others are making more subtle changes. Vintage-style bathtubs with clawed feet, old-style lighting fixtures or sink faucets are a popular option. If you’re a fan of old-style decor, poke around online and see what strikes your fancy. Quite a few things have come back this summer that you might not have expected.
