What You Always Want to See from Your Window Well Contractor

If you live in some parts of the country, you’ll probably have window wells for your home. These recessed, below-ground spaces typically exist around basement windows. If you have them in place, that means natural light can enter your basement. They also provide you with an emergency exit if you must leave the house via the basement if there’s a fire.

If you don’t have window wells yet, but you want them, then you will need to find the best window well contractor in your area that can install them for you. Before you hire just any window well contractor, though, you will want to make sure that you’re seeing a few particular things from them. We will talk about those in the following article.

Recommendations from Friends or Family

First, you might ask around to see if you know any family members, friends, or neighbors who have used a window well contractor. Maybe you can get a recommendation.

If you can’t get a recommendation this way, then you will need to do some research on your own. It’s always nice to deal with a company that someone you know personally says did a good job for them, though.

Positive Online Reviews

If you do have to look for a window well contractor on your own, then you might have more options in some parts of the country than in others. In some states and cities, most homes have window wells, so it makes sense that you will plenty of potential options. If you live in an area where not as many properties have window wells, then that might limit you in terms of what company you might select.

You will certainly want to look for a window well company that has plenty of positive online feedback, though. You can take a look at their Google Business listing. If you see that this company has hundreds of positive comments from former customers and four-and-a-half stars out five, then you can feel a lot more confident about hiring them.

If you see that there’s very little pubic feedback, or you see several negative reviews, that likely means you will want to use someone else.

A Professional-Quality Website

You should next visit the window well contractor’s website to see what you think of it. Does the site have lots of professional-quality photos and videos? Does the copy have a lot of typos or misspellings?

You will also want the website to clearly list everything the company does. A site that does not list all of the services this company provides won’t make you feel more prone to hiring them.

You might also look for features like an “About Us” section, an FAQ section, and a company blog. All of these demonstrate that you’re dealing with a professional company that cares about how they present themselves to the public.

A Cost That Works for You

If you like what you see on the company’s website, then you might reach out to them by phone next. You can also reach out by email, but a phone call will probably get you a faster response.

When you talk to a representative from the company on the phone, assess how they speak to you. Do they seem friendly and accommodating? Does it seem like they want your business? Ideally, you want them to sound like they value you as a customer.

You can ask them for a ballpark estimate of how much it might cost for them to do the job. If they can’t give you an estimate over the phone, then you can have a representative from the company come take a look at your house. They can give you a number then.

The Ability to Work Within Your Timeframe

If the cost for the job works for you, then you can next try to set up a time when the company can come back to do the job. Maybe they can come sometime in the next few weeks, and that will work fine for you.

However, if they can’t come do the job for months, and you want a company that can do it faster, you may need to go with someone else. You need both a company that can work within your timeframe and one that will charge you a price you can afford.

If you find a window well contractor who checks all these boxes, then you can hire them confidently.
