What is a beautiful piece of artwork without a frame? Rolled up in storage, that’s what. Whether your need is for an ornate surround or a simple, classic casing, a good frame is more than just something to hang the item with. Various professions display different documents for easy reference or comforting knowledge of an officiating body.
How many diplomas have you seen on a doctor, dentist, lawyer, accountant, or other specialist wall? If they were taped to the wall or hanging in a rust-covered frame, would that change your expectations for quality of products and services? Detail matters to our subconscious.
Our mind is assessing patterns in the background at a rate we cannot fathom. It misses nothing. Keep this in mind when displaying your professional achievements or even at home. A picture frame collage is a great way to decorate and share your family, vacation, or hobby pictures. I have a large family, and my father was a shutterbug.
I picked up his hobby and studied photography, developing my own film and photos when I was 11 years old. My main interest was architecture and the black and white medium. Still today, I feel “assumed” colors can distract the mind from seeing shapes for what they are. Black and white makes my mind work to create connections of color. Subtle frames in classic black fit the best, but brown gives it an aged or historic feel.
Another favorite thing to photograph was the fluid dynamics of clouds. Floating frames seem to give the true feel of the enormity of the sky in photographs. There was a large airshow in my hometown each year, and aircraft caught my eye, eventually leading me to an Air Force career, but not before making my own posters of my favorite aircraft on my walls.
Framing did not matter to me then. Just to mount my own poster was cool. During my service, I obtained a host of training certificates, awards, decorations, and medals. Most of these are preserved and presented in deep box frames made with deeper coloured wood grains. A service flag box displays all decorations, ribbons, and rank accrued over duty length.
I have not developed a creative art skill such as painting. I admire this skill greatly in abstract, representational, and figurative creations. I cannot imagine how complete it must feel to see your efforts and design displayed in an exhibition gallery. Potential buyers may be focused on your work, but their subconscious is back there calculating how the presentation complements or detracts from the art itself.
